THE ACACIA STORY
OUR STORY
The Acacia Story
The Liem family has deep roots in the Valley of the Sun and its dynamic real estate market. In the early 1960s, Don Liem, Scott’s dad, joined a young homebuilding company and helped Knoell Homes become one of the largest homebuilders in Phoenix. Scott joined the company in 1975 beginning his highly successful career selling new homes.
As the Valley continued its explosive growth through the 1980s, Scott expanded his focus to land brokerage. From his immersion in all facets of residential land development, he expanded his expertise in the distinct challenges and needs of custom lot communities..
FOUNDING ACACIA
In 1999, Scott established Acacia Properties to serve the custom home community which soon became a true family company. Christy joined the team to focus on marketing custom homes. The family team added the talents of the Liem daughters. The family’s commitment to exceptional custom home communities in the Valley soon attracted land-owners and developers as clients and partners.
A TOTAL RESOURCE
The Acacia team has assisted in creating and marketing many of the Valley’s most prestigious and successful communities. Today, Acacia is a preeminent resource for area developers and builders, offering comprehensive support in all aspects of property marketing and brokerage.
Philanthropy/Community Involvement
Acacia Properties and the Liem family’s and commitment to community is a core value. Our philanthropic and volunteer contributions, through the Tempe Diablos Charities and East Valley Women’s League are fundamental to our professional and personal lives.
THE TEMPE DIABLOS
The Tempe Diablos was formed in the late 60s by Don Liem, in concert with 11 other Tempe leaders. The Diablos are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Tempe through their fund raising activities with a focus on youth education programs and other “quality of life” programs in the City of Tempe. Scott has been an active member of the Diablos since 1981 and served as its president in 2010.
EAST VALLEY WOMEN’S LEAGUE
East Valley Women’s League’s mission is to empower and inspire needy women to lead more promising lives. The League has returned over $1,000,000 through programs and scholarships and continues to have a profoundly positive impact on their community. Christy has been an instrumental member of East Valley Women’s League for over two decades.
SPREAD D LOVE
Throughout Don Liem’s life, helping others through his philanthropy was always a priority. He directed much of his volunteerism and economic resources to the Tempe Diablos/Tempe Diablos Charities and Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos (NPH), an orphanage founded in 1954 in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Don’s introduction to the orphanage by Frank Knoell, his partner at Knoell Homes, ignited Don’s passion for the orphan children and inspired him to raise millions of dollars during his 30-year affiliation.
Upon his passing in 2018, Don’s grandchildren, whose lives have been profoundly inspired by their grandfather, established the Spread D Love family initiative to honor their grandfather’s legacy of giving. Spread D Love launched its first fundraising event in December 2018 with the Miracle on 71st Street at the Liem Tempe ranch. The inaugural “Miracle” brought Christmas to 50 homeless kids in Gilbert and in 2019, to 100 needy kids in Tempe.
